*** The reason for this is so the station trustee can contact you in an emergency during your Club Call Operating dates. The station trustee must be able to contact you via telephone if needed. ***

You may choose up to a total of 7 days in a calendar year for your use of the Club Call. These dates can be consecutive or may be broken up into individual days or groups of days throughout the calendar year.

Dates are assigned on a first come first served basis. Please click on the YEAR numbers below for a calendar listing of dates already in use:

  2014       2015

*** NOTE *** If for some reason an operator has to cancel their operating dates, PLEASE let Karl, KB1DSB, know as soon as possible prior to your intended operating dates so he can make those dates available to another club member.

Rules for FISTS USA Club Call Use

1. When using the FISTS USA Club Call ( KNØWCW ) you must attach your call area to the call depending on where you are located during your operation. Example: KNØWCW/6 if you are located in CA, or KNØWCW/1 if you are located in VT.

2. A log must be kept of all QSO's with the following minimum log information; UTC Date and Time of QSO, Call of Station Worked, Frequency, His RST, Your RST, Name of Operator Worked, and QTH of Station Worked. A Club Call Log sheet has been created in a PDF format by Tom WB5KHC. You will need Adobe Reader to use this log sheet. To download the Club Call Log Sheet just click on the link below:

FISTS USA Club Call Log Sheet

Send your paper Club Call log, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

KNØWCW QSL Manager
c/o Karl Zuege, KB1DSB
478 CR 53
Rogersville, AL
35652-3503

Or . . .

Send your Club Call log via e-mail attachment, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

E-mail KB1DSB at:

Log should be sent in one of the following formats: Excel, Word, or a Text file.

3. All dates of operation are according to UTC (GMT) date and time.

4. All contacts made using the FISTS USA Club Call are not useable for awards for your own call sign.

5. While many operators wish to complete and forward the QSL cards for their contacts, some operators may not be able to accomplish this. Operators can complete their cards and forward those cards, (which might be too expensive for them to deal with), to the KNØWCW QSL MGR. This includes US and DX cards for Non-FISTS members. The last option is for the operator to forward their log to the KNØWCW QSL MGR and cards will be filled out and forwarded. FISTS USA does not want a difficulty with QSL'ing to prevent someone from being an operator of the Club Call.

Those who may not be able to prepare the cards and forward them should contact Karl well before their scheduled date(s) of operating. This will save him sending blank cards to them.

For all other operators, an initial number of cards and FISTS brochures will be sent to them prior to their scheduled dates. Additional cards and/or brochures will be forwarded on request.

QSL cards may be requested from Karl Zuege, KB1DSB via telephone, ( 802-558-2148 ), his mailing address above or via his e-mail address;

6. All QSO's must be made on CW mode only. Any amateur band may be used.

7. When you are the control operator of the station using the FISTS USA Club Call, you must stay within the operating privileges of your own operator license class.

8. The FISTS number for the FISTS USA Club Call is 10,000 and is the number you should give out when using the Club Call Sign, NOT your own FISTS number. The FISTS USA Club Call CC number is 1380.

9. Remember that you are a world-wide ambassador of the FISTS CW Club when you are operating the North American Club Call Sign. Fostering the use of CW and kindling friendships between Morse operators should be first and foremost while operating KNØWCW. Exchanging FISTS and CC numbers is lots of fun, but please remember that "number chasing" should NOT be the desired purpose.

10. There are many ham operators new to CW on the bands. KNØWCW operators are asked to please QRS and be as accommodating as possible to the new CW Ops. Many of these operators will be the lasting legacy for Morse Code and we should do everything we can to encourage and help them to remain in the CW fraternity.

FISTS USA Club Call Certificates

There will be two FISTS USA Club Call certificates:
Operator -- & -- Achievement

Operator Certificate:

The Operator Certificate will be issued for making a minimum of 10 contacts per day, (FISTS or non-FISTS stations), of scheduled use of the FISTS USA Club Call during the time you are the Control Operator of the call.

Example: If you signed up to use the Club Call for 5 days total, you must make a minimum total of 50 QSO's with the Club Call in order to qualify for the "Operator Certificate". These 50 contacts may be spread out over the 5 days in any manner.

You can send your Club Call Log to the KNØWCW QSL Manager in one of two ways.

1. Send your paper Club Call log, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

Or . . .

2. Send your Club Call log via e-mail attachment, within 15 days after your last day of operation, to:

E-mail KB1DSB at:

Achievement Certificate:

There are two options to obtain the Achievement Certificate:

1. Contact the FISTS USA Club Call once each month of the calendar year. (Total of 12 QSO's)

Example: You work W2YMX using the Club Call in January, you may also work W2YMX using the Club Call again in February, plus other stations in the remaining 10 months. A contact needs to be made with the Club Call every month of the year under option #1.

Using Option #1, the same station using the Club Call may be worked more than once providing it is in different months.

OR ...

2. Contact 12 different authorized stations using the FISTS USA Club Call during a calendar year. (Total of 12 QSOs)

Example: If you work W2YMX, N1PT and KB1DSB using the Club Call in January, you may not work those stations using the Club Call again in any other month during the year if you are going to claim the Achievement Certificate under option #2.

Using Option #2, you can only work a station authorized to use the Club Call once during the calendar year.

Send your station log claiming the Achievement Certificate to:
